Our educational system tends to focus its efforts on developing the ability for young people to advocate - to present - to put forth their knowledge, ideas and opinions.

I love the idea that learning to balance that skill with our ability to listen, deeply, and with genuine interest to the ideas of others, especially the ones we don’t immediately like or agree with, is a great gift.

A gift for both the mind of the one being listened to AND the mind of the one listening.
