Naomi Shihab Nye’s eyes on the world seem to me able to see through the veil – looking past the obvious, tangible stuff to the underlying meaning, and that to which we cannot give meaning, for it is mysterious. Her beautiful poem Kindness (https://poets.org/poem/kindness) has long been one of my most favourite. At this time, when it is often possible to feel lost in a world so simultaneously filled with inexplicable brutality and exquisite beauty, her invitation to live without roads occurs for me as deeply consoling.
