"It's really easy to be kind to others when I remember that none of us came into this world with a manual about how to get it all right." - Jill Bolte Taylor
When Julia Makhubela and I co-facilitated the DEI workshop for all of 2023 and half of 2024, one of the comments we heard over and over again in our close on 60 workshops was "you can never know what another person is dealing with" as a way that people had found to treat with kindness even someone who was being prejudicial or unkind towards them. This remembrance: "I have no way to know what you are dealing with" is a live-saving antidote to reactivity, and an invitation to slow down and respond with compassion.
